The inside cover of my future treatise – a striking visual, confronting even the most advanced readers in their attempt to interpret my bold neologisms, dense footnotes, and vague post-structuralist uses of Greek mythology.

A sunny day in Lüneburg.

For the first time since I’ve been here, I went outside without a coat. I still prefer wearing it though – it makes me feel more prepared.

Netherlands

March 30, 2009

I went to Groningen over the weekend. It’s a small city in northeast Holland. It was raining and cold (I was shivering horribly for the first two hours), but it was fun nonetheless. I’ll upload pictures later.

roommates

March 26, 2009

One of my roommates moved back into the apartment yesterday. The semester starts back up again in April. It’s nice to have someone else around, especially after being alone in the apartment for almost two weeks. I like having some solitude, but after a while it begins to feel like isolation. Sometimes it’s nice just to have someone else breathing in the other room.

Greek influence

March 26, 2009

“I have gained this by philosophy: that I do without being commanded what others do only from fear of the law.” – Aristotle

The influence of ancient Greek architecture in this building’s construction seems to have taken on a rather ironic sense these days.

I love this.

rothbard et al

March 23, 2009

I’ve been diversifying my reading material a bit more lately. I began with Wittgenstein and philosophical pragmatism and, through some note-taking and bibliography-checking, ended up being fascinated by Austrian school of economics, particularly the ideas of Murray Rothbard, Ludwig von Mises, and F.A. Hayek. I got about three hours of sleep last night because I was up until five reading a collection of essays on Rothbard. Thus, diversifying seems to have worked out pretty well; it leaves more room for enthusiasm.

Hannover

March 23, 2009

I took the train to Hannover on Saturday. The weather had been really nice for a few days, and I decided to take advantage of it. The city hall in Hannover is amazing; there’s an elevator that goes to the top of the dome that, rather than going straight up, follows the path of the dome’s curve by changing directions. I didn’t get a chance to ride the elevator, but I found a picture of it’s path on Wikipedia.
